Would You Be Offended by This Thanksgiving Move?

THE STORY

My mother in law showed up to Thanksgiving with her own dinner.

A whole-ass dinner. For herself.

I had been cooking all day. Turkey, sides, potatoes, gravy, the works. I was hot, tired, overstimulated, and trying to act like a gracious holiday woman instead of the feral raccoon I had become by 3 p.m.

Then she walks in carrying her own personal Thanksgiving plate.

And no, she did not explain it in some normal, human way like, “Hey, my stomach has been weird,” or “I’m on a strict diet,” or “I’m allergic to joy.” She just showed up with it. Like this was a totally regular thing to do.

I know people have food issues. I know people have health stuff. I know families are full of weird little rules nobody tells you about until you accidentally trigger them.

But this felt personal. Like a tiny F-you.

I stood there next to the turkey I had basically raised from the dead, wondering if I was supposed to smile and say, “Oh cute, you brought a backup Thanksgiving in case mine sucked.”

So I need the internet jury.

Would this piss you off, or am I being dramatic because I spent six hours getting bullied by a bird?
