Can I Rehome a Pet I Never Wanted?

THE STORY

My daughter begged for a rabbit.

She made charts. She watched videos. She promised to clean the cage every day.

That lasted about eleven minutes.

Now I feed it, clean it and keep it from chewing cords. The rabbit is cute, but the smell is not cute and neither is finding hay in my bra somehow.

My daughter loves him in theory. In practice she remembers he exists when friends come over.

I found a good home with someone who already has rabbits and knows what they are doing.

My husband says rehoming him would teach her that commitments do not matter.

I think keeping an animal nobody properly cares for teaches something worse.
