I like my kid’s teacher. She is great.
But when did school become a year long gift registry?
There was Christmas, teacher appreciation week, her birthday, end of year, classroom supplies, fundraiser baskets and some spring thing I still do not understand.
The class mom keeps sending reminders with suggested amounts. Suggested, my ass. It feels like a bill with smiley faces.
I already donate snacks, tissues and enough glue sticks to repair a small house.
Now they want twenty dollars per family for a spa gift card.
Can I just have my kid write a nice note, or does that make me the cheap mom?
The class mom is not the IRS. Suggested means optional.
Write the note. Teachers remember sincere kids more than another mug.
Teacher appreciation has turned into a second Christmas with Venmo.
I donate supplies and skip the gift parade. My bank account has boundaries.
Do what you can. Nobody should be financing appreciation on a credit card.
Send snacks for the class and call it a day.
I like teachers. I do not like being assigned another spending event every six weeks.
A handwritten card is enough and honestly probably nicer.
I opt out of group gifts and let my kid make something.
My teacher friend says she has enough cups to open a restaurant.
