Graduation for Kindergarten Was Three Hours

THE STORY

My niece graduated kindergarten in south Louisiana and the ceremony was three hours long.

There were speeches. A slideshow. Individual awards. Two songs. A prayer. Another song. Then every child walked across the stage while someone read a paragraph about their future plans.

One kid wants to be a dinosaur. Respect.

I love my niece. I clapped hard. But by hour two my lower back was filing paperwork and somebody’s toddler was licking the railing.

When did finishing kindergarten become a state occasion?

Give them cupcakes, take twelve pictures, let us leave before the sun changes position.

Now the comments get a turn.

Read the room, state your case, and try not to become the reason the next submission exists.

You forgot the part where everybody takes 900 pictures in the aisle while blocking the next family.

I dislike calling every transition a graduation. It dilutes the meaning and creates unnecessary expense.

My lower back was filing paperwork is exactly how those metal bleachers feel.

I love the little graduations but yes, 45 minutes max. Say names, sing one song, release the grandparents.

Three hours is too long. The children are five. Half of them forgot why they were there.

Louisiana will turn anything into a ceremony with a prayer, a slideshow, and food afterward.
