My husband had three friends over after a show. Everybody was loud, sweaty, half drunk, and pretending we were still twenty five.
I went into the laundry room to get paper towels. His friend followed me in and shut the door with his foot. I should have laughed. I should have opened it. Instead I stood there while he looked at me like he had been waiting years.
He kissed me. I kissed him back. It lasted maybe ten seconds before somebody yelled for ice.
Nothing else happened. He left twenty minutes later. My husband slept with his hand on my hip like he always does.
I have not stopped thinking about that stupid laundry room.

You are playing emotional Jenga with oven mitts on.
You need better boundaries and I need the next chapter.
One hotel room? You knew exactly what you were doing.
Pretending not to know each other is hot until somebody’s cousin walks in.

If his wife invited you over, I would assume either enlightenment or homicide.
I would move counties. Maybe states.
Honestly the secrecy would eat me alive. I cannot even hide Amazon boxes.
I’m judging, but from a comfortable chair, so it barely counts.
Respectfully, you are not confused. You just do not like the answer.
No judgment, but this is exactly how a three episode documentary starts.
Your group chat knows, doesn’t it? Somebody always knows.
Not me whispering ‘oh no’ to my phone.
I would be sick with guilt for six months and then somehow do it again.
I’m married, not dead, but I also enjoy keeping my house.
Please do not confuse chemistry with a good idea. I have done that research.
I’m not saying I support this, but I fully understand how you got there.
I am not clutching pearls. I am clutching my calendar because when do you have time?
I would need a spreadsheet, a witness protection plan and a nap.
You are not bad. You are bored, lonely and making that everybody else’s problem.
This has community theater energy with federal consequences.
I would have folded immediately. I am weak and apparently honest today.
