I live in a four unit building in northern New Jersey. Our doors are maybe ten feet apart.
The woman across from me keeps picking up my packages and putting them inside her entryway. She texts me after, like, “Your box is safe with me.”
It was already safe. It was at my door. I was home.
Last week I opened my door while she was carrying my Target box away. She said porch theft is bad around here. We are on the third floor behind two locked doors.
I told her please leave my stuff alone. She got offended and said she was only being neighborly.
Now she is giving me the silent treatment, which honestly has been peaceful, but I still feel like I somehow became the rude one.
She saw you were home and still walked off with it?? Ma’am that’s not neighborhood watch, that’s a side quest.
The silent treatment is a complimentary service. Enjoy it.
Maybe she truly thinks she is helping. Older people especially worry about package theft. Still, once you asked her to stop, that should have been the end.
I had a neighbor do this and she was opening stuff ‘by accident.’ Put a camera up.
I would thank her once, then be very clear. Please do not touch my deliveries. You already did that. Her feelings are hers now.
Nope. In Jersey we call that taking somebody else’s package. She can dress it up with concern all she wants.
