Was I Wrong to Keep the Refund?

THE STORY

I booked a cabin for a family weekend and put the whole thing on my card.

Everybody was supposed to pay me back. Half did. Half forgot, vanished, or developed amnesia whenever money came up.

The owner canceled and refunded the full amount to me.

Now the relatives who never paid are asking when I am sending “their share.” Their share of what? The air?

I already returned the money to the people who actually paid. I kept the rest because it was mine to begin with.

My aunt says I am being technical and making family about money. Funny how people say that when it is your money.

Was I wrong, because I do not feel wrong.

I would send a screenshot of the payment history and go make coffee.

You fronted the money and carried the risk. The unpaid portion was already yours.

You are not being technical. They are being creative.
